Helen Hadley faced lice alone. Twice. First with her children, then herself. Each time, she was frustrated, angry, exhausted and alone. The pharmacist and pediatrician failed to help and she wasn’t comfortable confiding in other parents. The experiences were wrenching--and she thought there had to be a better way. So in 2001, when she found herself returning to the workplace, she set out to make sure other parents had the help she had wished for.

Today, as the only nit picker in New England who makes house calls, Helen has treated over 2,000 people, ages 2 to 85. She sidesteps chemical treatments knowing that only her manual skill of picking lice and nits is reliable. While she works, she shares the knowledge and wisdom accumulated through years of service to others. And she listens. Indeed, Helen restores calm as much through her presence as through her skill.

Yet, there are only so many nits one woman can pick. With demand far outstripping capacity, Helen began to train other nit pickers, and to offer additional services that empower parents for whom her house calls are not an option. Offering phone consultation to families nationwide, lice information seminars and lice and nit removal services, Helen eases the anxiety of lice infestation for an ever-expanding group of people.

Referred by physicians, school nurses and many grateful customers, Helen’s services are always confidential.
